The story of Shinich Kotsuji's craft begins with Iga clay,  a soil as rare as it is powerful.

Rich in character, it carries strength, warmth, and a quiet simplicity unmatched by any other clay. Praised by Kawabata Yasunari as a true expression of wabi-sabi, Iga clay has long represented the heart of Japanese aesthetics.

Captivated by this raw material, Shinichi-san established his kiln in Iga, choosing to preserve the clay’s natural impurities; pebbles, iron, and all. This approach gives rise to ceramics that are rugged yet refined, vessels that embody both authenticity and elegance. Each piece holds within it the spirit of the Japanese countryside, shaped by patience and tradition.
